Drinking on the Cheap

Your twenties are a time to get your career in order. To put you nose to the grindstone and start yourself from the bottom so that by your thirties you're comfortable in your career and starting to settle down.

Your twenties are also a time to have FUN! You'll never be more independent and have less responsibility than you do now so grab a hold of that opportunity and go have fun!

Drinking can unfortunately, be kind of expensive. Especially when you live in somewhere like Canada where let's face it, liquor prices suck. Even worse is when you're buying drinks at the bar, which tend to cost about as much in their weight as fine diamonds.

I've become a pro at a cheap night out. What can I say? I got bills to pay!

Some tips for a cheap and fun night:
- Wine is pretty cheap if you can find a kind you like! It's about 10-15 dollars for a decent bottle and goes a long way.
- Drink before you go out! I cannot stress this enough. DO NOT go to the bar and expect to get drunk without spending a ton of money. Like seriously, at least $50.00 (which could be also used for about a week or two worth of groceries.) Drink at home and get a good buzz going so that you only have to buy a drink or two at the bar to keep you going.
- Find a place without cover. You may lose out on going to certain places but cover can be KILLER. Paying $20 before you even get in is just crazy. Not my idea of fun.
- At the bar shots are cheaper and will give you more bang for you buck but a mixed drink lasts longer so it's all about what you'd rather.
- Take public transpo! Never cab. It's a HUGE waste of cash. If public transportation is done for the night you can also try to get a fixed rate for a cab. I had a friend once who went through a line of cabs bargaining with each until she got the best price. She put them in competition with each other and we ended up getting home for $25 cheaper than usual. Genius.

Have fun but don't blow your bank (remember, you're still a struggling twenty-something!)
