Last summer was the busiest summer of my entire life. Between working two jobs 7 days a week, doing a huge renovation on our house, figuring out how to be home owners for the first time and planning a trip to Europe in September, we tuckered ourselves out pretty well.
This summer is such an exciting one because we can actually enjoy it and our house! One of the things we're most excited about it gardening. We've got a pretty sizeable backyard that once upon a time seemed like it was very well-loved. It's currently wildly overgrown and neglected but beneath all that we've got tulips, tiger lilies, blackberry bushes, cherry trees, grape vines, and a wired in vegetable garden.
I'm a pretty novice gardener. I'll generally keep flowers in the house until they die and then throw them out with no attempt to revive them. I have however, had success in the past with herbs so I thought that would be our first undertaking.
My mom gifted me a herb box so I thought that would be my first attempt at creating life:
Full disclosure, I'm pretty sure that these herbs will never sprout see as I've been told it doesn't take more than a few days for them to show their faces and its been like a week.
Regardless of whether those turn out to be a success we did make our way down to the market this weekend and pick up some pre-sprouted beauties.
To plant them in these dollar-store pots I simply lined the bottom with some garden stones (glow-in the dark not necessary unless like myself, it's all you can find):
After that I covered the stones with dirt:
Then I placed the herbs in the pots, put dirt in the gaps and watered.
Ta-dah!
I'm looking forward to cooking with these herbs and watching them grow. I feel pretty confident I can at least keep these babies alive. Oh and the lavender is pretty much an olfactory dream.
