Adult Stuff

<< Me after I spent a morning on hold >>

Man, oh man, there is a lot of adult stuff you have to do when you get a house. Last week my job was to set up the gas, hydro and water. It was, to say the least, a painful experience.

KW hydro betrayed everything I know about waiting on hold. I spent my entire morning, two hours to be exact, waiting on hold to speak to a representative and just kept telling myself that I had to keep waiting on hold or I'd lose my place in the queue.

WELL GUESS WHAT!?

EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE.

After two hours on hold I hung up and I thought "hey, I'll call back, just to see." And I got right through.

Good news is: everything is sorted out.

Bad news is: my youth is gone.

Tips for calling to set up your hydro:

1. Call as early in the morning as possible
2. Have all your information ready (your address, your move in date, your lawyers name etc).
3. Take up the mindset of a Buddhist monk before making that call

Now we've got everything sorted out that we need to and we've only got a little over two weeks until we move. I can't even believe it. This is the first time I'm moving out of my parents house with no intention of coming back. Feels good kids, it feels pretty good. PRETTTYYY GOOD (in Larry David's voice).

Well that's enough of that.

Word to Your Mother

This is a weirdddd mother's day because it's the last mother's day when I'll actually be living under my mom's roof.

It's bitter sweet to say the least but I know that moving out is only going to make me appreciate everyone in my family that much more.

Yesterday was a day wonderfully full of family. We started off the day by going to church with my sister and her family-in-law (that's not even a thing, but that's what I'll call them). My niece was getting baptised so we all went to support. We had an amazing lunch afterwards in the beautiful weather. It was pretty much a perfect afternoon.

And yes, I know it was not only mother's day and it was also my niece's baptism day but I couldn't resist the urge to make the day feel extra special with a tutu, because nothing says crying for attention like a tutu.

Hope it was a happy day for all you mother lovers out there.

Things They Don't Tell You: Budgeting for a House

I cannot, cannot, cannot stress money talk enough. Now before you do anything, talk budget. It's probably the least sexy thing that two people can do together, but it's SO important.

When Jordan and I decided that we were going to do this thing, like really, really do this thing we got out our paystubs and calculated just how much money we had after we paid for our car insurance, our cell phones, my OSAP (shoutout to the Canadian Government for taking all my money. Hayyyyyy).

Then we did some calculations of what a home would cost. We used a mortgage calculator to try and see what a house would cost and then did some guesswork for things like utilities. We tried to include EVERYTHING. Groceries, gas, small necessities, extra spending money to keep us sane etc. etc. etc.

Once we had it all written down we looked at it and said "hey, we can do this."

Your turn.
